Ibaraki Prefectural Archives & Museum (Mito City)

The Ibaraki Prefectural Archives & Museum were established in 1974. The museum’s permanent exhibits showcase the history of Ibaraki from ancient times to the present day. The museum itself is housed in 72,000m2 of grounds which are also home to an Edo Period (1603 – 1868) residence and a Western-style school building from Meiji Period (1868 – 1912).

During the Autumn, the museum grounds are a great place to see bright yellow gingko trees, one of the highlights of Autumn in Japan.
