Momijien Restaurant & Tsukimachi Waterfall (Daigo Town)
This soba restaurant overlooks Tsukimachi Waterfall, one of the most beautiful destinations in northern Ibaraki. All of Momijien’s soba noodles are made from locally grown Hitachi Aki Soba buckwheat flour, but what makes their noodles truly unique is the restaurant’s one-of-a-kind automated sorter. This machine sorts the buckwheat seed hulls by individually by colour, allowing the restaurant to make different colours of soba, including their special green soba!
As well as soba, Momijien also offers home-roasted coffee and a range of light bites including dango dumplings topped with walnut paste. There are several vegetarian options and soba can be made vegan on request.
During the warmer months, visitors can enjoy their soba noodles on the restaurant’s outside terrace. The fast-flowing waterfall produces a refreshing breeze in the summer, but the best time to visit is arguably Autumn when the maple trees around the waterfall turn a beautiful fiery red.
